Interested in modeling? Figure modeling is something some do full time, others as a part time career, but some do just once once in a lifetime.
Could one of these could be you? Now that you have seen some samples of my art, how would you like to appear on these pages and in my limited edition, signed prints in an art gallery exhibition or maybe in a book of photographs? Or maybe you would like some high quality prints just for yourself, maybe for that special someone else. I am constantly searching for new and fresh models to work with in creating new and exciting pieces of art. I can't do it without you!
If the idea is intriguing, contact me by e-mail, telephone or snail mail and lets talk about it. There is never any pressure and I never try to "talk you into'' posing. The sessions are always in private,. You are more than welcome to bring a someone with you to be present during the session. Your guests (chaperones) are welcome during the session, as long as he or she is not distracting (it's damn hard work and I'm an old fart with a short attention span). I kicked a husband out a while back because every time I backed up a step, I bumped into him! Can't blame him for wanting to look over my shoulder, he was trying to help, but please, give me a little bit of a break. If he's trying to learn a bit about photography, that's fine, I'll even give him a bit of an instructional workshop and let him shoot some, but it's my session and he'll have to let me work. We'll make room for other stuff.
FAQ (Frequently asked questions for Newbies. What age should I be?
If you are under 18, don't even think about it! If you are under 21, it depends on how mature you are. You will have to convince me of your maturity and provide a photo ID to be photocopied. Aside from that, age is not really important some models have been 18 or 19, others have been in their 40's and 60's.
What should I look like for a shoot?
If you have a proportioned figure and at least somewhat attractive face, (thin and flat is not a problem, this ain't Playboy), then I am interested in you. I'm interested in real women, bumps, bruises and surgical scars included. I'm interested in the glamorous, super beauty of course, but I'm also interested in the average woman, someone who could be(or actually is) the lady next door (in fact one was a neighbor). A perfect body isn't at all necessary. Things like surgical scars can be worked around so they are not a problem. Experience is not a factor. I have photographed highly professional models and rank novices alike. Many of my models are volunteers who I photographed nude for the first time; who after seeing part of my collection, decided they wanted to be included. Not one has ever regretted the shoot. I'm interested in personality and motivstion far more than in appearance. I want you to really want to do this!
What's an art session like?
The sessions are a lot of fun for everyone. They are relaxed and casual, with coffee, soft drinks or maybe a glass of wine available. I have found that most new models are nervous at first, but don't want to stop by the end of the session, they are having too much fun. There is a private changing and makeup area, with robes available and frequent breaks in the action to relax and change the pace. Music is always on during the shoots (my kind of music, usually classical, jazz or whatever seems right).
I'm bashful and wouldn't want my face to show.
Faces are not a problem at all. As you can see in the images, much of my work is by intent, anonymous. If being recognized is a problem, it can easily be arranged so that your face either does not show at all, or is de-emphasized and minimized. Names are not used at all, unless you wish a bit of publicity.
How do I arrange a session with you?
First, since I'm in Atlanta, GA, be in or near Atlanta, or find your way here. Travel expenses are available only in rare, special circumstances (starving artist and all that). If you are not in the Atlanta area, contact me so we can discuss your travel. Contact me for an appointment before you show up (as I may be working on the computer in my jocky shorts), preferably by email with a photo attached or at least a detailed description of yourself. If you can't e-mail or prefer the phone, then feel free to call or write. The only thing you can't do is procrastinate!
What I am uncomfortable with a pose?
There are two ways of being uncomfortable. Sometime the poses are physically uncomfortable, because of stretching into some contorted positions. When that happens, let me know and we'll take a break so you can work out stiff muscles, or just relax for a few minutes. Sometimes a pose is uncomfortable because of the nature of the pose. In my studio, the model is always the boss. If you feel a pose I suggest is too revealing, or too explicit, just let me know and I'll explain what I am doing and what the pose is about. If you are still uncomfortable with the pose, then we simply move on to something else with no argument! I want my models and to be pleased with the session so they will want to come back and tell their friends about it.
What if I discover, after starting a nude session that I'm too embarrassed and decide I really don't want to do it.
No problem. Let me know that you are unhappy. We will stop immediately and destroy the film, but let me know your feelings as soon as possible. The last thing I want is for a model to feel embarrassed and have regrets after doing a session. After the shooting session is completed and we have spent several hours shooting film, it's too late!
Are the sessions rushed and hectic?
Absolutely not, not ever. Remember I'm retired from commercial photography, so my time is my own. I calculate how much time I believe will be needed for the session, depending on what we are doing, then double or triple it. There is always plenty of time and never a feeling of being rushed or hurried.
Suppose after seeing the pictures, I am uncomfortable with a pose. I may feel it is too explicit.
First, my art is generally not the explicit type, like you see in the men's magazines, though it may be discretely erotic. (If you are interested in those shots, see the question below.) When I direct you ointo a pose, if it makes you uncomfortable, let me klnow and we simply move on to something else.Second, since I now shoot digitally, you will review them with me at the end of the shoot. At that time, if you believe a shot is too embarrassing for you, let me know and delete it. Remember, since it is your likeness in the photo, you are the boss. I believe you certainly have the right to control how you are shown. When viewing the proofs, that is the time for that decision. After post processing and final prints are made, it's too late to reject a specific image.
What happens if after the shoot, my boyfriend or husband is unhappy and wants the pictures destroyed?
That's a problem you need to work out with him in advance. I have enough baggage in my life without adding yours. If it is or may be a problem for you, then don't do the shoot. Basically, your personal situation is your's and as a photographer it's really none of my business. Once the shoot is done, then its done. I invest a substantial amount of my time, energy and often money in these sessions and can't throw that away after the fact. It is up to you to work out domestic problems in advance. If there is someone important in your life who may object, I strongly suggest you discuss it before doing the shoot. This may be art, but it is also business. Your significant other is welcome to be present during the shoot if that helps, but can have no editorial function.
I'm a nude dancer or other entertainer and may need photos for my own publicity.
No problem. Let me know and we can arrange usage. Several dancers and other entertainers have had me do their PR photos. I love doing trades or barters, my photo needs in exchange for yours..
I'm interested in posing, but am concerned about being nude in front of someone I don't know. I'm just concerned about being nude.
This is an easy one. Either don't do the shoot or feel free to bring someone with you as a chaperone/bodyguard. Your guest will be welcome in the studio during the shoot, as long as he or she is not disruptive or distracting to either of us. A photo shoot is business and hard work, not a social activity. You will not be unnecessarily touched during the session. If your hair, a hand or foot for example, needs to be adjusted, I'll tell you what needs to be done. If for some reason I need to adjust a hand or foot, or hair, or make a slight adjustment in an article of clothing or fabric or your torso, I'll ask your permission, if I can't verbally direct the pose. There is nothing sexual about the shoot! Besides, I'm firmly convinced that all of the women in the world know each other. If I had a single incident, I'm convicnced that within 48 hours every woman in the world would know about it and I would be out of business. If you are simply concerned about posing nude, then why are you r4eading this? If that's a serious concern, don't do it.
What's in it for me?
No one is asked to donate their time. Remuneration is available in as variety of forms. But remember, this is for art and there are no corporateor other clients, as in advertising or commercial shoots. Pay is available, but you won't be able to retire on the 'art model' pay rate. The pay can be in the form of cash or barter. Pay is normally in the form of very high quality prints, or possibly barter, with the artistic session for my use in exchange for a model portfolio session for your use. A combination of the above can also be arranged.
I would love to have pictures of myself for me or as a present for my guy, but wouldn't want them to be published.
That's easy, don't call me as a model, instead contact me for a private commission. You would be surprised how inexpensive some great personal photos could be. For my private clients, I offer a guarantee that no prints will ever be made without your express written consent. As a client, the photos will be as conservative or as downright naughty as you like. Depends on how 'wicked' you feel!
I'm interested. How can I contact you?
By e-mail, by telephone, or by snail mail. The particulars are at the bottom of this page.
